The Queen City called my name in August 2017. The chance to cover the Carolinas and move closer to home seemed like a no-brainer.
I was born and raised in Nashville, TN, and graduated from Harpeth Hall School. I spent my childhood ice skating competitively, playing softball, and taking on cases with our mock trial team. During high school, I interned on the ABC show 20/20 in New York City which I believe planted the seed to pursue a career in journalism. I went on to graduate from Southern Methodist University with degrees in convergence journalism and political science.
In college, I interned at CBS-11 in Dallas and FOX 4. My love for politics and journalism collided in college when I got the chance to go cover the 2008 New Hampshire Presidential Primary with FOX 4 and the FOX-U team. I got a taste for what it takes to make everything happen behind the scenes and did my first live shot. In college, I was involved in my sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma, SMU-TV, and served as president of the Mock Trial team. After graduation, I landed my first job as a reporter for KCBD in Lubbock, TX. I’d never been there before but was ready to make it home. I learned how to do it all – shoot video, edit, produce, report, and anchor. I transitioned into anchoring on the weekends and producing my own shows and would even edit them too.
Next stop: Austin. I was offered a job reporting for Fox 7’s Good Day Austin and moved to enjoy the capital city, live music, and lots of tacos. During my time there I covered city hall, the legislature, and court cases. I learned the true meaning of Keep Austin Weird and even won an award for best rodeo reporter! Giving back is important to me which is why I joined the Junior League of Austin. I volunteered with a grief counseling non-profit, recorded audiobooks for the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and stuffed backpacks of food for students in need. One of the most memorable opportunities was raising a service dog through Patriot Paws. The non-profit gives service dogs to veterans who need them for emotional or physical support. Fox 7 Tommy lived with me for a while and we even did a weekly segment called Around Town with Tommy. My last two years in the city I had the chance to produce and anchor Good Day Austin Saturday and Sunday. Texas will always have a special place in my heart.
The chance came to move to Queen City News. I joined the Queen City News Now team as a weekend anchor and reporter. You can now catch me Monday through Friday, co-anchoring from 4:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. When I’m not working I love to explore Charlotte and am involved with the Junior League of Charlotte.
This year I’m volunteering at Second Harvest Food Bank. I’m quickly learning to love the Panthers and the Hornets. I love a good cup of coffee, traveling, trying new food, and rolling up my sleeves in the kitchen. Believe it or not, a lot of our story ideas come from social media so if you have one let me know.
