I have a long history of weather (being the oldest on staff I’m proud to admit), and I fulfill the role of supplemental weather guy doing fill-in, severe weather coverage, and shifts to support the tremendous meteorologists here at Queen City News.
I’ve worked in markets from Little Rock, Dallas to my longest stints in Rochester NY, and here in Charlotte. (30 years total for Rochester and Charlotte alone). Grew up in a rural farm country of north-central Ohio near Marion (president Warren G Harding hometown) and was fascinated with the weather.
Couldn’t get enough of it from thunderstorms to midwest blizzards to tornados. I knew I wanted to be a meteorologist. Did two years at OHIO State, then two years at Northern Illinois University to complete my BS in meteorology.
I also went to graduate school and earned a ThM (masters theology) from Dallas Theological Seminary and am also an ordained pastor. I get the privilege of officiating myriads of marriages as a great side hustle! I’m an avid gardener and completed the Master Gardener training program through the cooperative extension in the late 90s in upstate, NY. I love winter weather so the trade-off for me in this southern climate is the long growing season. It’s an awesome gardening climate. It is so lush here and the variety of plants that grow here is remarkable. Like no other place I’ve lived in!
Fascinating climate, gorgeous countryside and with four distinct seasons (winter by far shortest and yet we are just far enough north where snowstorms can happen) it’s an ideal spot for a weather and plant guy!
Combine those loves with two delightful daughters at NC State and the charm of Charlotte, I couldn’t be in a more perfect sweet spot. Hope you enjoy it here as much as I do! Happy to help you in any way I can! Love connecting with people and all that Charlotte and the Carolinas have to offer!
