Sydney Heiberger

Sydney Heiberger joined the Queen City News team in June 2021 as the Northeast Bureau Chief, covering impactful stories from North Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Iredell, and Rowan Counties.

Prior to moving to Charlotte, Sydney was a Reporter and Anchor for WRDW in Augusta, GA. Among her hundreds of stories, Sydney has covered Hurricane Dorian and Georgia’s historic 2020 Senate election.

Growing up in Rockville, MD, Sydney watched local and national news every morning. From an early age, she knew she could transform her passion for asking questions into a career. Her first journalistic enterprise came in fifth grade when she decided to investigate what the lunch lady does when it’s not lunchtime. The school aired her piece at the talent show and from there, a passion was born.

While attending the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!), Sydney interned at Good Morning Washington, NBC4 Washington, and CNN Newsource, where she was eventually promoted to Freelance Producer. She also earned the Board of Governor’s Scholarship from the Southeast EMMY Awards, highlighting students who demonstrate excellence in broadcast journalism.

In her free time, Sydney loves to watch the Bulldogs play football, spend time with her cat Kirby (named after beloved UGA football coach Kirby Smart), and read crime novels. Feel free to stop and say hi if you see Sydney around town. She’s always open to good restaurant recommendations, and is so excited to be in the Queen City!
