CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Part of Idlewild Road was shut down Sunday after a fatal hit-and-run crash in the area, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Officers say they arrived to find two heavily damaged cars, a 2019 Dodge Challenger and a 2015 Land Rover, in the 6400 block of Idlewild Road near Conference Drive just before 3 a.m. on Sept. 17.
According to police, the Dodge was attempting to turn left when it was hit by the Land Rover driving at a high speed on Idlewild Road.
According to authorities, an officer headed to a different call was able to get to the crash site and provide medical care.
Mecklenburg EMS Agency (Medic) says 33-year-old Taze Pritchett, the front seat passenger in the Dodge, was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the Dodge, 31-year-old Maria Ramos, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Officials say the driver of the Land Rover fled from the area. Nearby, officers found the passenger of the Land Rover, 20-year-old Nevaeh Washington, who was taken to the hospital with injuries related to the crash and an assault.
Police are currently searching for the Land Rover and its driver. This vehicle was reportedly stolen on Sept. 11.
