CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An investigation is underway after a security guard shot and killed a man near the Uptown Transit Center overnight, CMPD announced.
The man has been identified as 24-year-old Kashaune Lavonne Teal. The victim’s family has been notified of his death, police said.
Officers responded to 911 calls around 12:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at the 4th Street side of the EpiCentre underneath the bridge to the light rail platform, near the Transit Center.
Teal was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
An initial investigation revealed security guards who were in uniform and working for Allied encountered Teal near the Transit Center, and one of the security guards shot and killed him after perceiving a deadly threat, according to the police report.
CMPD said a gun was recovered at the scene. There is no mention of any charges, and this remains an active investigation. CMPD Det. Lyon is the lead in this case.
