CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) — A Charlotte couple has been charged in the death of their infant daughter, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Basheba Freeman, 21, and Taquan Beecham, 23, are both charged with homicide due to child abuse.
Officers said at approximately 11:46 p.m. Sunday, April 24, they responded to the 9300 block of Winter Elm Lane in reference to an infant that was found unresponsive.
Upon arrival, police located the unresponsive infant, identified as 9-month-old Tayara Beecham. Medic immediately transported the victim to Carolinas Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
Homicide/ADW Unit Detectives responded to both CMC and the incident location to conduct an investigation.
Crime Scene Search also responded to the initial crime scene and collected physical evidence.
As a result of the investigation, and in consultation with the Medical Examiner’s Office, detectives determined that the infant was physically assaulted, which led to her death.
Freeman and Beecham were subsequently arrested and transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
