CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — The news of the upcoming release of the body camera footage from the day a man was shot and killed by a CMPD officer in the parking lot of a Burger King was welcomed by many leaders in Charlotte, including those at the police station.
CMPD did not fight the petition for the footage, though there are questions now on what exactly the video will show.
Questions are lingering over what exactly happened at the restaurant on Beatties Ford Road back on March 25.
What we do know is that a CMPD officer fatally shot Danquirs Franklin after they say he didn’t follow commands to put down a gun. Within the coming days they will be able to prove it.
“We need to see, from every angle, what happened that day. We need to see,” NAACP chapter president Corine Mack said.
In a courtroom Thursday afternoon, a judge said he would allow the release of body cam footage of the shooting. The request, made by Charlotte media organizations, says the footage serves the public interest and essentially saying the footage could put weeks of questions to rest.

“I’m hearing stuff about this every day from my community,” Charlotte city councilman Braxton Winston said.
Winston and Mack were both out at the scene the day the shooting happened.
“This has been a daily thing. Someone’s always asking, what do I think? I don’t know,” Mack said. “But I do know that what I think we need is to be transparent, we need to know the facts about the entire case.”
The video may give answers, but it could also compound the hurt felt by a community, and a family.
“There’s a lot of concern about this within the community and I’m sure they’re going to have to share the grieving process with the city, state and country,” Winston said.
The judge ordered the release for Monday afternoon to give Franklin’s family time to view the video before it is released.
“Before we make any type of judgment, let’s see the facts,” Will Adams with Team TruBlue said.
