CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — While thousands came out over the weekend to enjoy Taste of Charlotte festival, there was one attraction that turned some heads.
In addition to the vast number of restaurant booths, musical performances, and various other attractions, a giant inflatable slide also made an appearance at Taste of Charlotte, the annual summer food festival in uptown. While that may sound innocuous, it’s the design of the slide that had people talking.
“I can’t believe I’m seeing this, I’m not sure how I feel about that.”
The inflatable, was in the shape of a sinking Titanic. Yes, that Titanic. Patrons could climb aboard and “feel the thrill” of escaping the sinking ship. The ride built for ages 12 and older certainly turned some heads.
“I just was walking through the festival and sort of had to do a double take,” one festival goer told FOX 46 Charlotte. “I was like, ‘wait, that’s the Titanic.'”
More than 1,500 people were killed when the Titanic sank in 1912. Of the 107 children traveling on Titanic, almost half were killed. To this day, it is still considered to be one of the worst peacetime disasters at sea.
Now not everyone had an issue with the slide. A number of people were seen taking the plunge. It’s also important to note that a number of entertainment companies offer the “Titanic Adventure Slide” as a rental option. Clearly it’s a popular attraction.
