ROCK HILL, SC — John Tyrone Roddey Jr. has been sentenced to 20 years for the 2014 sexual assault of a student at Winthrop University.

Roddey pled guilty to kidnapping and first degree criminal sexual conduct in December.

Roddey stopped a female student in the Margaret Nance parking lot as she was walking back to her dorm on Friday October 31. He pulled out a gun and forced the student to go with him to a dark area near the residence hall, according to a police report.

He is facing a 20 year concurrent sentence or a no parole offense and must serve 85% of his sentence before he can be up for parole, according to the York County Clerk of Court.

Roddey must also register as a sex offender in South Carolina.
