CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — FOX 46 has learned more about the accused shooter and why he may have carried out his deadly attack on the campus of UNC Charlotte. Investigators so far say they have not found a clear motive, but that Terrell purchased his pistol legally.

Records show Terrell moved to Charlotte with his father from Texas about two years ago. Those records also list their address as a new luxury apartment complex in NODA.

Residents tell FOX 46 Charlotte the complex e-mailed them Wednesday morning to notify them CMPD had used a search warrant to search an apartment.

Students at UNCC who also spoke with FOX 46 said Terrell was quiet and kept to himself.

“I think a lot of people saw him around. He was really normal I never had any issues with him. It’s just weird to think of him like that,” said one student.

Investigators say they’ve never had issues with Terrell. In fact, they say he wasn’t even on their radar as a threat.

Terrell’s grandfather told the AP that his grandson was not interested in guns.

UNC Charlotte officials confirm that Terrell was once a history major, but withdrew this semester.
