CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — Governor Roy Cooper ordered all North Carolina flags at state facilities, buildings, and grounds to be lowered to half-staff, effective immediately Tuesday, and through sunset on Friday to remember and honor the victims of this week’s tragedy at UNC Charlotte.

Other schools, businesses, counties and individuals are encourages to fly the flag at half-staff this week as a sign of respect for those lost.

Governor Cooper issued the following statement on Tuesday:

“I am shocked and saddened by the horrific and senseless tragedy here in our own state at UNC Charlotte, and thank the first responders for their brave and immediate response. On behalf of the entire state, I extend our deepest condolences to the victims, loved ones, and UNCC campus community during this difficult time. We are grieving with you.”
