MOORESVILLE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — We are learning more about the Mooresville officer who was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop.
Officer Jordan Sheldon had ties all over the area Cabarrus, Iredell, and Mecklenburg counties. A family member tells FOX 46 he was dedicated to his work, and loved being a K9 officer.
Sheldon was shot and killed Saturday night in the line of duty.
Sheldon attended Central Cabarrus High School in Concord, according to a family member and he graduated from UNC-Charlotte in 2010 with a criminal justice degree and a minor in sociology the university told FOX 46.

FOX 46 asked UNC Charlotte if they plan to do anything to honor Sheldon. A spokesperson says that’s definitely a possibility, but just too early to know for sure. They just learned he was one of their own today.
Mooresville police chief Damon Williams shared his memories with officer Sheldon and his K9 Ramon.
“The officer served this community with dignity and that’s what I’ll remember most,” Williams said.
He asked for support from the community.
“I want you to engulf our officers this week, they’re going to need to know that you as a community care about how they’re feeling and what they’re feeling,” Williams said.
