LUMBERTON, N.C. (AP/FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — An online petition has been created urging government officials to allow Hania Aguilar’s father to attend her funeral. He’s currently in Guatemala, and needs an expedited visa to the U.S.

The petition, which already has nearly 16,000 signatures as of Monday afternoon, asks immigration officials to let Hania’s father attend her funeral next week.

The petition was started by Monique Cespedes.

“No parent should be denied the right to attend their child’s funeral,” Cespedes wrote. “Agencies need to come together diligently to facilitate the process so this father can come to his daughter’s funeral.”

Hania was abducted from her Lumberton home on the morning of Nov. 5 while waiting for the rest of her family to come out of their house in the Rosewood Mobile Home Park, authorities said.

A witness heard her scream, looked outside, and saw a male subject dressed in all black and wearing a yellow bandana force Hania into a relative’s vehicle that was parked in the driveway.

Police found her body last week in Robeson County.

A $30,000 reward remains in place for information related to the kidnapping.
