CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — The community is coming together to raise money for a sensory garden in memory of a UNC Charlotte student who tragically died after falling off a party bus last summer in uptown. 

Polly Rogers, 20, who was a sophomore, passed away in May 2018 after police said she fell out of the party bus’ emergency exit just before 10:30 p.m. in the 4500 block of N. Tryon Street. 

Rogers died of multiple blunt trauma injuries from being hit by cars, the medical examiner said.

From now until April 19, 2019 Rogers’ family and friends, along with the UNC Charlotte community, are coming together to honor her memory with a sensory garden which will be located in the Botanical Gardens at UNC Charlotte.

“She was young, beautiful, and full of life. Polly was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority at UNC Charlotte and was studying special education in the Cato College of Education. She was warm and very caring to all who had the pleasure of knowing her,” the funding page said. 

The Polly Rogers Sensory Garden, designed with children in mind, will engage and stimulate all the senses through plantings and interactive elements.

“It is a safe, therapeutic environment for kids with Autism and other disabilities, and is the perfect way to honor Polly who wanted to be a Special Ed teacher.”
