CHERRYVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A 18-year-old drowned in Moss Lake on Friday, March 17, according to police.

Jeremiah Roberts, of Shelby, was identified as the person deceased.

The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. on the 120 block of Sunshine Lane near Old Stubbs Road.

Witnesses told investigators Roberts jumped off a peer, began to struggle, and soon fell beneath the water’s surface.

Cleveland County EMS responded as well as Charlotte Fire (for the use of their dive team) to attempt and assist in rescue efforts.

Authorities say around 3:30 p.m., Roberts was recovered from the lake and rushed to Atrium Heath Care, and pronounced dead at 5:03 p.m.
