WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY UNTIL 7 A.M. SATURDAY

WIND CHILL ADVISORY FOR ASHE AND WATAUGA COUNTIES UNTIL 1 P.M. SATURDAY


(PINPOINT WEATHER) — A cold front and coastal storm will continue to bring us some wintry weather overnight through early Saturday morning. Rain will change over to snow for a brief period overnight causing some slick conditions to develop on area roadways.

This winter weather will quickly shift east of the area by daybreak Saturday leaving us with dry conditions to start the weekend. The winds will continue to be gusty through Saturday causing it to feel bitterly cold. Wind chills on Saturday morning could be in the teens and 20s for most of the area, but it may feel like below zero in the Mountains.

Snowfall totals will be around a coating to 2” for most of the area with higher amounts possible over the mountains. Places above 3500 feet could see 2-4” of snow with locally higher amounts possible on the highest elevations.

Watch for snowy and icy roads for a while overnight and early Saturday, but there will be some decent melting as temps warm into the upper 30s on Saturday afternoon.

Sunshine will stick around through the weekend as high pressure regain control. Temperatures will rebound into the middle and upper 40s on Sunday before returning to the 50s for the start of the week.
